Pfc. Charles D. Carroll Jr., previously reported missing in action was killed Jan. 7 in Belgium, according to word received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll. He was 20. Pfc. Carroll was first gunner in a machine gun squad with the 112th Infantry of the 28th Division. He took his basic training at Fort McClellan, Ala. He has been in service since March 8, 1944, and overseas five months, serving in England, France, Germany and Belgium. He attended Maryville High School.
