Pvt. Carroll W. Bailey, 20-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Bailey of 521 West Main street, was killed in action in Italy April 25, the War Department has informed his parents. A member of an Army Infantry division, Private Bailey had been on overseas service since last June, going to Italy from North Africa and Sicily. He began Army duty October 21, 1942, and had early training at Camp Lee, Va. A former student in Johnson City schools, he was employed at Holston Ordnance Works in Kingsport in civilian live. Surviving besides his parents are two brothers, Harold J. Bailey, 22, seaman first class who now is serving in the Southwest Pacific area, and Fred W. Bailey of Johnson City, and two sisters, Misses Velma and Ruth Bailey, also of Johnson City.
