Staff Sergeant Carl Parton was born on July 5, 1931, and was originally from Lenoir City, Tennessee. He served his country in the Vietnam War in the United States Army, as a unit supply sergeant in B Company, 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Infantry Division. He was an 18-year veteran of the Army when his tour began on November 16, 1968. On August 12, 1969, SSgt. Parton was killed under non-hostile conditions in Binh Duong province, South Vietnam; he was 38 years old at the time of his death. He left behind his wife, Mildred June Sewell Parton (1932-2008), and four children, Allen, Rea Ann, Patrick and Amy. SSgt. Parton is buried at Loudon County Memorial Gardens, Loudon, Tennessee, and is memorialized on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on Panel 19W, Line 19.
