Carl Newby was born 21 May 1920 to George Franklin Newby and Dora May Lovelace.
Sgt. Newby had been in his country’s service in the infantry for almost three years and had been overseas since March. He was killed during the battle for Guam on 3 August 1944. He is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Rockwood, Roane County, Tennessee. Awarded the Purple Heart.
