Carben Alonzo Keck was born in Goin, Claiborne County, Tennessee, son of Phillip Frederick Keck and Sarah Jane Sowder. He died at the age of 23 of cerebro spinal meningitis at the Base Hospital at Camp Jackson, South Carolina.
