Calvin Anderson Gray was born 4 May 1924 in Fannin, Georgia. he was the son of Anderson Christopher Gray and Lula Pearl Porter. He was married with Wallace Jeanette Hensley and was the father of twin sons, Calvin and Alvin Gray who died at birth and Calvin Anderson Gray Jr. who was born on 4 December 1944.
He was killed in action in France.

The Copper City Advance, May 27, 1948:
Funeral services for T-5 Calvin A. Gray. 20-year-old Ducktown soldier, were conducted by the Revs. John M. Wakins and Robert Parsons at Hot House Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Home. Final military honors were accorded the young soldier by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, commanded by Victor Hensley.
A member of C Company, 71st Infantry Regiment, the Ducktown youth lost his life in action at Epinal, France on November 15, 1944. He entered service in March 1943 and sailed for overseas duty in September 1944. His decorations include the Purple Heart, which was awarded posthumously and the Presidential Unit Citation.
Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Jeanett Hensley; a small son, Calvin Anderson, Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Gray; a sister, Mrs. Inez Queen and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Porter.

The Knoxville Journal , December 7, 1944:
Corporal Gray is survived by his wife, the former Jeanette Hensley, and son C.A. Gray Jr., born December; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Gray; and sister Miss Inez Gray.
A former student at Ducktown High School, Corporal Gray was inducted in January 1943. He had been overseas in France two and one-half months.
