Sgt. Bruce McClendon, son of Mrs. Emma McClendon of Spring City, was killed in action somewhere in Italy on May 16, 1944. He had been in the service for two years, and had been overseas for five months. His mother received a card of sympathy from General Marshall saying: “Your son fought valiantly in a supreme hour of his countyr’s need. His memory will live in the grateful hearts of our nation.”
