Boyd Ralph Derreberry was born in Andrews, North Carolina, the son of David Alexander “Alec” Derreberry and Lenna Glesta Nelson. Siblings: Lloyd Ray Derreberry, Lillian Ora Derreberry, and Irene Derreberry (who died in infancy). He was married to Mary Katherine Bradley. He enlisted on September 23, 1943, at Fort Oglethorpe, GA.

Pvt Derreberry died in Belgium and was initially buried at the American War Cemetery Hamm in Luxembourg. He was buried in Knoxville National Cemetery on August 10, 1949 (Section B Site 6486)
