Bill W. Evans was born on 20 July 1925 in Haywood County, North Carolina. He was the son of John Washington Evans and Etta Clark.He was killed in action in Germany and is buried at Piney Cemetery, Oakdale, Morgan County, Tennessee.

Pvt. Bill W. Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Evans of Canton was killed in Germany, February 27. Pvt. Evans, who formerly was employed by the American Cleaners in Canton, entered service in September, 1943, and had been overseas more than four months, during which time he served in England, France, and Belgium. He received training at Camp Pickett, Va., and Fort Bragg. Surviving in addition to the parents, are three brothers, Sgt. Joe S. Evans, in Germany, Cpl. John J. Evans in Burma and Tommie Ray Evans of Canton, and four sisters, Mrs. Flora Clark, Mrs. Bill Shytles and the Misses Minnie and Netta Evans, all of Canton.
