Benjamin Tomas Ricketts was born on 4 March 1890, Knox, Tennessee. He was the son of Jeptha B. Rickeths and Amanda Jane King. He was the husband of Clarise Ricketts and father of James David Ricketts, Douglas MacArthur Ricketts and Thomas Ricketts Jr.
He Died non Battle on 21 August 1945 of a coronary occlusion at his home in Knoxville,  Tennessee.

Benjiman Thomas Ricketts, 55 years, chief machinist mate in U.S. Navy for 35 years, died Tuesday 11 P.M. at his home, 917 Young High School Pike. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Clarice Ricketts; sons, James David, Douglass MacArthur and Thomas Ricketts Jr.; brothers, Henry and Luther Ricketts; sister, Mrs. Laura Wells, all of Knoxville.
