Sgt. Ben J. Widner of 1656 Maryland Ave., was killed in action in Italy on August 25, the War Department has notified his wife. Sgt. Widener was 22 years of age and has been in service for 21 months and overseas 16 months. A son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Widner, also of 1656 Maryland Ave., Sgt Widner was a graduate of Bristol, Tenn., high school and was employed at Cortrim Lumber Co., prior to entering the army. His widow and a ten months-old aughter, Phyllis Marie, survive. A brother, Pvt. Dee Widner, is stationed at Camp Blanding, Fla.
