Auburn Clay Sharp was born on 23 August 1919 to Walter Patton Sharp and Pearl Pearman. He was married to Janet Laura Magerl.
Killed in Action 11 January 1945
Auburn Sharp died as a result of wounds received in action. He served on the U.S.S. Dupage (APA-41). On 10 January 1945 at 1915 a Japanese suicide plane crashed aboard the U.S.S. Dupage in Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, Philippine Islands. Memorialized at Manila American Cemetery, Philippines.

On Sunday, May 5, memorial services will be held in Duke Hall at LMU for Lt. (Jg) Auburn Clay Sharp, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Sharp, Cumberland Ga. Lieutenant Sharp was killed in the assault on Guam on July 21, 1944 and was cited by Admiral Nimitz for bravery in keeping with the highest traditions of the Navy.
Lieutenant Sharp was a graduate of Powell Valley High School, attended LMU until he enlisted in the Navy Nov. 7, 1940. He attended Columbia University, where he was commissioned and assigned to the Pacific theater of operations. On Sept. 5, 1942, he married Janet Laura Magerl of Chicago. He received the American Defense medal with fleet clasp; Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign medal with three bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Campaign ribbon with two bronze stars, Victory medal and the Purple Heart.
