Armon Burnette “Burne” Banner Jr. was the son of Armon Burnette Banner Sr. and Petty Ann Cora Belle Collis. He married Anna Rhea McDonald in 1942. He had been in the army since Oct. 29, 1942 and was named an aviation cadet in May, 1943.

Armon Burnette Banner Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. A.B. Banner, formerly of Bristol and now of Winston-Salem, N.C., was killed Friday in a plane crash at Coffeyville, Kansas, where young Banner was taking advanced pilot training with the Army Air Forces, it was learned here yesterday. The fatally injured man, a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. B.N. Collis of Tennessee avenue, was to have received his flying wings with the next few weeks. Details of the crash were not learned.
