Allen Kiping Painter enlisted in the United States Navy on 23 October 1943 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was sent to Naval Training Station San Diego, California for basic training. After basics and an advanced course he boarded USS LST (Landing Ship, Tank) 689 on 3 July 1944 enroute to San Pedro, California and then onto Receiving Station Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for further assignment.
Allen was assigned to the USS Mississippi (BB-41), a New Mexico-class Battleship and signed aboard on 11 August 1944 as a Seaman Second Class.
Allen’s the son of Herman Ray Painter and Andy Myrtle Hite. Married to Margie Ruth Crawford and they had one son.

He is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery, the Philippines, and at the Hite Family Cemetery, Kingsport, TN.
Allen Painter served on the U.S.S. Mississippi and died of injuries as a result of enemy plane crash on this vessel. His remains were buried at sea.
