PFC James Edward Allen Jr. was the son of James Edward Allen and Esther Hinds. He served with the 50th Reconnaissance Squadron, 11th Bomber Squadron. He was based at Hickam Field, Hawaii. During his stay in Hawaii he had been attending the University of Hawaii. He died on 17 September 1941 following an appendectormy in Tripler General Hospital. He is buried at Stebbins Cemetery at Grandview, Rhea County, TN.

The body of James E. Allen, Jr., 22 who died Sept. 17 in the army hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, will be brought to Spring City on Train no. 16 at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 and funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. that day, at the Grand View church. Officiating will be Dr. J.C. Orr., the Rev. J.M. Hinds, the Rev. John A. Davis and the Rev. James w. Davenport. Allen was a private first class in the United States army, having recently been promoted from ground mechanics to air mechanics. He joined the army Nov. 16, 1939 at Athens and sailed for Honolulu Jan. 1, 1940. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James E. Allen, Sr., and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Hinds, of Grand View. Interment will be in Stebbins cemetery.
