Alex Harris Bailey was born in Franklin, Macon, North Carolina, the son of Grover Cleveland Bailey and Sallie Lou Harris. He was married with Clara Ruth Green.

Mrs. Alex Bailey, Fairview Avenue has received a telegram from the War Department telling her of the death of her husband. He was a member of the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Italy. The messagestated the soldier died January 4, cuase of death was not disclosed. He was in a hospital suffering from wounds received in combat. The corporal is survived by his widow; parents, Mr. and Mrs. G.C. Bailey of Youngsville, N.C.; one sister, Miss Virginia Bailey of Youngsville, and a brother, James O Bailey of Johnson City.
