Albert Israel VanZant Jr. was born 1922 in Hamilton County, Tenn. His parents were Albert Israel Vanzant and Mattie Cartwright Vanzant. He enlisted 4 April 1942 and served as a Pvt. with the U. S. Army Air Forces. He died 23 August 1942 in Georgia and is buried in Chattanooga National Cemetery – 1200 Bailey Avenue, Chattanooga, Tenn. Sec V Site 14505

Pvt Vanzant was attached to the Special Corps, Army Air Corps Det., Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He died at DeKalb Co, Georgia at the age of 19.

Private Albert I. VanZandt Jr., 1707 Stanfield Street, died Monday afternoon at Lawson General hospital, Atlanta. He was a graduate of Central High School and attended the University of Chattanooga before enlisting in the army as an aviation cadet. Surviving are his parents;  three brothers, Thomas, John and Dexter VanZandt, and two sisters, Mrs. J.A. Spres and Miss Annie VanZandt, all of Chattanooga.
