Pvt. Aaron H. Dempsey, USMCR, 19, died on October 31 of wounds received in action “in the performance of his duty and service of his country,” his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Settle, 1004 Fairmont have been informed in a wire from the War department. The boy’s father is A.W. Dempsey, also of Bristol. The message, signed by Lt. Gen. A.A. Vandegrift, states that no information is available at present concerning the circumstances of the youth’s death or the disposition of the remains, other than that temporary burial in the locality where death occurred has probably taken place. Additional information is promised as soon as possible. Pvt. Dempsey had been in the Marine Corps eleven months on November 8, day the wire announcing his death was received. He was a native of Bristol, attended Virginia high school and had been employed by the Southern Maid company and the Diamond Cab company.
